"I designed my first course in 1998 and immediately became addicted to the process. Course design is a unique combination of Science and Art. In that sense, I compare it to cooking a great dish - great ingredients are a huge help but it is the combination of appropriate ingredients which results in great flavor (or a great playing experience). Each piece of property is different and each property owner has different needs.

In some ways the design process is very simple- “Is it fun? Is it fair? Is it safe?” (effectively “Does it taste good?” to extend the cooking metaphor) There are a myriad of possibilities at every turn however and combining them in a coherent fashion is the challenge of the designer."
